VISUAL EXPLORATIONS - HIGH SCHOOL ARTISTS ARTE AMERICAS FRESNO

EXPLORACIONES VISUALES - VISUAL EXPLORATIONS
ARTIST RECEPTION ON SUNDAY, February 12, 2017

“Every child is an artist.  The problem is how to remain an artist once he or she grows up.”
- Pablo Picasso

2017 marks the thirtieth anniversary for Arte Américas, and we felt that it was only appropriate to begin by looking forward to the next generation of artists being nurtured in the Central Valley.

This exhibition was the brainchild of two dedicated art teachers, Patricia Semrick and Adam Mena, whose long-term vision was to establish a high-level, annual showcase featuring talented artists from Central Valley high schools.

These are students who push limits in assigned works, mentor and inspire their classmates, and continually develop their personal style.  The reward for their dedication and hard work is the rare opportunity to show these works in a gallery setting.

The artists represent high schools from as far north as Merced, and into the towns and cities surrounding the greater Fresno area.

Works were solicited via an open call to art teachers from throughout the Valley.  The works were selected to be included in this exhibition by a panel of judges, based on a rubric of technique, execution, and creative use of media.

There are a variety of works that truly showcase the talent that exists within the young people in our community.   It is the hope of Arte Américas that the opportunity to show in this annual exhibition will  inspire the Valley's young artists to continue to push their limits visually.
